ABOUT

SPORTING CHANCE FUND

Australia loves cricket. It’s a national past-time that taps into the psyche of the nation, penetrates all elements of society, and fits into all the nooks and crannies of our vast country.

The nation’s backyards, streets, fields and even workplaces host millions of Australians – young and old – who grab a bat and ball to have a hit with their friends, families and colleagues. When we’re not playing the great game, we’re talking about it – in boardrooms and classrooms, on-line and on-air. Cricket’s esteem and reach means it is also a formidable platform for community connection. People of every race, religion, culture and gender can – and do – participate in or consume cricket. The sport is inclusive at all levels. It celebrates diversity and it enables accessibility.

SPORTING CHANCE FUND

The Sporting Chance Fund was realised in August 2017 following an agreement between The Lords Taverners Australia (The Taverners) and Cricket Australia. The agreement sees The Taverners become the lead Community Partner of CA – tasked with the responsibility of running the newly established fund.

Funds raised through the Sporting Chance Fund increase the reach of programs and initiatives undertaken through the ‘A Sport For All’ Program, Cricket Australia’s inclusion and diversity education program.

Through modified games and training programs across schools and clubs, the ‘A Sport For All’ Program aims to grow cricket participation, putting more bats and balls in the hands of Australian kids and young people, irrespective of their gender, race, backgrounds or abilities.

The country’s passion for the sport is increasing each year* and a new agreement between The Taverners and Cricket Australia will help ensure the game launches from its firm foundation. The Sporting Chance Fund will give, more young Australians with varying abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to participate in and engage with one of Australia’s most admired sports.

As part of the agreement, The Taverners also becomes CA’s leading community partner, a title the ‘Taverners are particularly proud of, and determined to nurture through the delivery of sustained community cricket success. The Taverners intend to work as a strategic, aligned arm to CA and help it achieve its vision for cricket to be Australia’s favourite sport, and a sport for all Australians.

*2016/17 National Cricket Census showed cricket’s participation grew more than nine percent to more than 1.4 million players in Australia
