ABOUT

LORD’S TAVERNERS AUSTRALIA

THE TAVERners

The Lord’s Taverners Australia (The Taverners) is a voluntary organisation which shares Cricket Australia’s vision of cricket being a sport for all with a focus on trust, honesty, inclusiveness and diversity.

The Taverners and Cricket Australia hope to inject more than $2 million by 2020 into the ‘A Sport For All’ Program, which will assist grass roots cricket throughout Australia, expanding and improving the experience for all participants.

GOVERNANCE

The Sporting Chance Fund is overseen by a joint committee between the Fund’s leading entities, The Taverners Foundation Limited and Cricket Australia. The committee comprises of three representatives from Cricket Australia and the Lord’s Taverners Australia respectively. An agreed additional independent chair (currently Mr Graeme Innes AM) is also appointed by the committee.

Funds generated are distributed by Lord’s Taverners Australia in conjunction with Cricket Australia, investing directly into the ‘‘A Sport For All’ Program and State and Territory Cricket Associations with the balance covering organisational operations.

HISTORY

Lord’s Taverners was founded in 1950 in the famous Lord’s Tavern pub at the spiritual home of cricket, Lord’s Cricket Ground. Founding members, much like today’s members, sought to enable even the most marginalised and at risk young people to enhance their lives through sport. Some thirty years later, in 1982, Lord’s Taverners Australia was formed, carrying forward this mantra and seeking to make cricket a sport for all Australians. Since this time, Lord’s Taverners Australia (The Taverners) has become a leading benevolent association – now the lead Community Partner of Cricket Australia – with more than 2,500 members and 12 branches across each state and territory.

With a passion for cricket and a determination to enable more Australians to find enjoyment in sport, the Tavs’ branches and members work to break down barriers for young people to participate and realise their potential.

The Taverners and Cricket Australia hope to inject more than $2 million by 2020 into the ‘A Sport For All’ Program, which will assist grass roots cricket throughout Australia, expanding and improving the experience for all participants.
